Rebensburg down early in parallel giant slalom

Rebensburg had no chance against swiss wendy holdener, dorsch lost narrowly to swedish sara hector. Lena durr had already missed out on a place among the best 32 in the morning qualification and was eliminated.

"That was cool, a different experience for a change," said rebensburg on zdf. "I would have liked to be a little faster and go a few rounds further. But it was not easy."

In the first world cup format, which will also be part of the program at the world championships in cortina d'ampezzo next season, many favorites were caught early: the american overall world cup winner mikaela shiffrin, for example, lost her eighth final to clara direz as the fastest qualifier – the frenchwoman later even took her first world cup victory.

Shiffrin's long-time rival petra vlhova from slovakia had already failed in round one against swiss aline danioth. Rebensburg conqueror holdener then eliminated in the eighth finals.

In the surprise final, 24-year-old direz beat elisa morzinger of austria, who was two years younger than her and had only competed in four world cup races in her career and had never made it to the finals of the giant slaloms. Third place went to marta bassino from italy.
