Mass genetic testing in the claudia ruf case: reaction "overwhelming

In the first phase of the mass gene test in the claudia ruf murder case, around 95 percent of the men contacted provided a saliva sample. 945 men had volunteered for the test by sunday evening.

Bonn police chief ursula brohl-sowa spoke of an overwhelming result in grevenbroich on sunday.

Initially, the homicide commission had asked 800 men to give a saliva sample on site in grevenbroich-hemmerden, but then expanded the circle at short notice to around 1000 men.

Claudia ruf, then eleven years old, was abducted and sexually abused in her hometown of hemmerden in 1996. Her body was found 70 kilometers away on a field path in euskirchen near bonn. The search for the killer was recently reopened because profilers discovered new leads in the case.

In a second phase, a further 900 or so mannerists are to be contacted who have moved away since the murder 23 years ago. Results are expected in two to three months.

The police and the public prosecutor's office have offered a reward of 5,000 euros for information provided. Over 100 tips from the public had been received in the past two weeks. "A heiber tip has not been included so far," said a police spokesman.

Last weekend, 675 men had already responded to the call. A total of 1,900 instead of the 1,600 initially planned mannerists are now expected to give a saliva sample. In parallel to the on-site tests, the police have begun to write to police stations throughout germany asking for samples of the men who no longer live in grevenbroich.

It is already the third and so far roughest DNA mass test in the murder case. Investigators are also counting on the fact that, since 2017, DNA labs have been allowed to sound the alarm even for so-called near-misses, i.E. When a close relative of the perpetrator has provided a sample.

The people who did not show up for the appointments at the elementary school despite invitations are now being specifically targeted. Some men who fit the pattern have already died, said homicide commission chief reinhold jordan. In these cases, their relatives have now been sought out.
